Seniors: Dayton

Alicia Nichols
Alicia Nichols: one of the faster players in Flyer history, Nichols was a consistent slapper who loved to show off her speed on the base paths. Nichols started her career as a pinch runner, but she worked hard and found a consistent home in the starting lineup for her final few seasons. Nichols finished her career with 26 steals, including 11 in her final season at Dayton. Nichols could also lay down a bunt when Coach LaPlaca called on her, as she finished with 15 sacrifice bunts in her career. She was a great team player for Dayton and was ready to play whenever her coach called on her. Nichols finished her career with 4 RBI, but she scored 38 runs over the course of her career. Dayton is going to miss her wheels and the way she gave it her all on play in the outfield.

Emily Stegeman
Emily Stegeman: the best word that can be used to describe Stegeman is steady, as she was a fixture in the Flyer infield over the course of her career. Stegeman has been one of the top defensive shortstops over the course of her career and she has anchored one of the top defenses in the Atlantic 10. Stegeman was no slouch at the plate either. Her top season at Dayton came during her freshman season, when she hit .296 with 40 hits and 16 RBI. Stegeman was also deceptively fast and she finished her career 6-7 on steals. In her senior season, Stegeman set a career high with 2 homeruns on the season. Some big moments in her career include the 3 RBI game she had against Youngstown State in her junior season and going 4-6 against IPFW in her sophomore season. Stegeman really stepped it up at the end of her senior season and she went 3-4 at the Atlantic 10 Tournament with 1 walk and she drove in 2 big runs against Ohio State to close out Dayton's regular season. Dayton is going to miss her presence on the diamond, as she was one of the top defensive shortstops in the conference.
