Here are our selections for the weekly honors
Player of the week: Cyndil Matthew, UMass. This UMass speedster really got things going for her squad going 8-15 this weekend with 3 steals and 3 runs scored this weekend. Matthew's speed wreaked havoc on defenses all weekend long. Matthew and Quianna Diaz-Patterson formed a deadly duo of speed in UMass' order and it looks like they will be a force offensively.Pitcher of the week: Julian Austin, St. Louis. Austin had an outstanding weekend for the Billikens going 1-0 with 1 save and she did not allow a single run in 11.2 innings of work. Austin had a huge shutout victory against UNC Greensboro, which got the Billikens their first win of the year and they built on that momentum by winning their next 3 games. Austin also picked up a save by going 3 scoreless innings against Jacksonville, which advanced to Regionals last season.
Rookie of the week: Meg Kelly, Rhode Island. Kelly got her collegiate career off to an excellent start by .444 with 2 RBI during Rhode Island's first weekend of play. Kelly finished third on her team in batting average and she has helped revitalize URI's offense. The Rams will look for Kelly to keep up this production moving forward.
