Audrey Boutin |
Audrey Boutin: was a pure and consistent hitter for UMass throughout her career and she was responsible for some huge hits. Going all the way back to Boutin's freshman year, when she was sparingly used as a pinch hitter, she was called on in the Atlantic 10 Championship game against Charlotte with 2 runners on and 2 outs and she hit a pinch hit double, which pushed across the first two runners of the game for UMass, as they would go on to win the Atlantic 10 Championship. Boutin's best season came in 2009, when she really came on strong at the end of the season and earned a starting spot in the lineup in the postseason. At the Atlantic 10 Tournament in 2009, Boutin started all three games at designated player and went 3-7 en route to another UMass title. Boutin continued her strong play at Regionals, with an RBI single against Cornell and then in the next three games with UMass' season on the line Boutin reached base in every UMass game including three times against USA Softball Player of the Year Danielle Lawrie. In her junior season, Boutin split time at designated player with Jessica Serio, but she still came up with some big hits, including a game winning pinch hit RBI against Fordham. This season Boutin continued her clutch play, when the game was on the line. When the Minutewomen trailed George Washington 4-2 in the bottom of the 7th inning, Boutin turned on a pitch and sent it over the fence to tie the game. At the Atlantic 10 Tournament, she closed her career with a bang by being named to the All Tournament team after going 4-10, including a HR to tie the game against St. Joseph's with UMass' season on the line. Boutin's bat was pretty powerful, but she also had an excellant understanding of the strike zone and she was consistently able to draw walks at the plate.

Meg Carta |
Meghan Carta: after serving as UMass' bullpen catcher for her first two seasons at UMass, Carta was thrust into duty her junior season when Jessica Serio was down with a shoulder injury and she started every game at catcher for the past two seasons at UMass. Carta had an outstanding junior season, which saw her hit .308 with 13 HR and 43 RBI while being named to the Northeast Region First Team and the Atlantic 10 First Team. Carta was a clutch performer in big games, going 3-6 at the NCAA Tournament and 2-3 with a double and a homerun against Fordham in the Atlantic 10 Championship. Carta had multiple clutch hits in her junior season and she always seemed to come through when UMass needed a big hit. Carta's senior season didn't go exactly the way she planned it to, but she gave her all in every game, as she led a very young squad. Some of her highlights on the year included the two grand slams she hit this year and her RBI single against Michigan to start the season. Carta has been Sara Plourde's catcher for a long time and UMass is going to miss her steady presence behind the plate.
