Atlantic 10 Player of the Year Preview: Monica Aguilar

Monica Aguilar

Last year Monica Aguilar had an outstanding year for St. Joseph's providing the thunder to the lightning of table setters Dana Parks, Laura Cardone, and Bernadette Moran. The Hawks would find a way to get their speedy runners on base and Aguilar would drive them in.

Aguilar is looking to become the first Hawks player since Brooke Darreff to win Atlantic 10 Player of Year, in addition to leading the Hawks to their first ever Atlantic 10 title and appearance at NCAA Regionals. There is a special air about this 2012 season and the Hawks leader at the hot corner is a big reason why.

Aguilar put up outstanding numbers at the plate in 2011, hitting .391 with 52 hits, 7 HR, 42 RBI, and 8 steals. Aguilar is also known for her outstanding discipline at the plate, which saw her walk 32 times and strikeout just 11 times. In addition to her offensive exploits, Aguilar is an outstanding defender at the hot corner for Coach Terri Adams and she is never afraid to get dirty and dive for the ball.

Aguilar is a tough nosed-player and she is an outstanding example of everything that Atlantic 10 softball should be both on and off the field.
