The Atlantic 10 and NCAA RPI II

The NCAA released its second official RPI of the year and here is how the A10 stacked up as individual teams out of 289 teams in Division 1 softball.

36 Fordham
60 UMass
96 St. Joseph's
139 St. Louis
156 Charlotte
157 Temple

187 Dayton
225 George Washington
252 Rhode Island
266 St. Bonaventure

274 La Salle

So what does this mean for the A10 teams? Well not too much for anyone other than Fordham and now UMass. The Minutewomen have been slowly creeping up the RPI and if they keep this pace up they could end up with an at large, however they are still very far away from that. Fordham, on the other hand is moving in the opposite direction and if the Rams cannot get things going in the right direction soon they could play themselves out of an at large bid. No other team is within striking distance for a bid, though a couple teams are near that bottom spot in the RPI of 289.

So how does the Atlantic 10 as a conference stack up against the other 31 conferences?

1 Big 12 24.2
2 Pac-10 25.1
 3 SEC 48.8
 4 Big Ten 61.9
 5 ACC 72
 6 CUSA 82.5
 7 Sun Belt 89.5
 8 Mountain West 96.3
 9 Big West 103.7
10 Big East 104.6
11 WAC 118.1
12 Atlantic Sun 122.7
13 Missouri Valley 133.5
14 Mid-American 142
 15 Southland 147.1
 16 Horizon 149.4
 17 Big South 156.2
 18 Southern 158.7
 19 A10 168
 20 OVC 171.9
 21 CAA 172
 22 Summit 186.2
 23 America East 189.1
 24 Northeast 201
 25 Pacific Coast 202.5
 26 Ivy 204.7
 27 Independent 223.3
 28 Metro-Atlantic 224.1
 29 Patriot 228.1
 30 Mid-Eastern 249.6
 31 SWAC 266.5

Well the Atlantic 10's standing among the 31 Division 1 Conferences essentially stayed the same with the release of the latest RPI. This means that the A10 is doing okay, but there is definitely some room for improvement. The A10 really needs to improve at the bottom of the conference, since there is no reason that the A10 should have teams in the 200s. Moving forward that is something that the conference cannot let happen as it hurts all of the other teams in the conference.
